Ceropegia 'String of Hearts'
Ceropegia is a class of plants within the family of the Apocynaceae, native to Africa and Southern Asia. The Ceropegia Woodii, or more commonly known as ’string of hearts’ are one of the most sought after houseplants, and it’s clear to see why. Their long, thin trailing vines and small, unique heart shaped foliage gives them their popular nickname. Whilst the idea may seem daunting, your String of Hearts will appreciate a little ‘hair cut’ from time to time, as this will stimulate new growth.
Light: Place your Ceropegia in a bright room, but not in direct sunlight.
Watering: To keep your String of Hearts healthy water them once every 10 to 14 days. The String of Hearts are fairly drought-resistant, although do not cope well with being over-watered. Ensure water has fully drained after each watering.
Soil: Make sure the soil is well drained. As Ceropegias prefer a cactus potting mix to a regular potting mix. This consists of 3 parts potting soil, 2 parts coarse sand and 1 part perlite.
Temperature: Ceropegia plants like the temperature to be between 26-29°C.
Repotting: Repot your Ceropegia every 18-24 months. Try and increase the pot size by 2cm.
